I can only get an IUD after I've had children?

-I was told that in order to get an IUD I would have had to have a child before. Is this true? Is there some way around this?This is largely true. I talked to my gyno about getting one as well as the one I had before her. Some gynos will go ahead and do it, but they are really not supposed to. The reason they want you to have children first is because sometimes the IUD can cause certain tissue damage that may result in infertility afterwars, thus you can't have children anymore.Ive never heard that before- who told you that? if it was a doctor go and see another one, if it wasn't a doctor go and see one :)
