How bad is methadone, really?

-Recently it seems i've just been hearing such a negative buzz around it. I know it works on the same opoid receptors as heroin but I even heard a tv show say straight out it was like heroin without the high, is this just because it works on the same receptors? I have abused methadone in the past and i didnt really like opiates and have since matured quite a bit, so i dont need anyone on here to become my mother. But the more of societies stigma about it i seem to percieve the more ashamed of my abuse of it i am. so before anything else i want to really just get some details about this apparent pharmaceutical heroin.It is an opiate, and would work on the same receptors, so it is possible to become addicted to methadone. Who cares about stigma? It's bad for your health to be dependent on an opiate, plain and simple.
