What color should my period be?

-Im not sure what to call the 'fluid' so this will do. Today I went to the bathroom and saw this light-dark red 'liquid' in my underwear. I've recalled hearing periods can be this red, so i thought it was blood and i was having my first period. Well, I think its my first. Anyway. I called my mom, and i told her I thought i was having my period. She asked if it was blood, and i said yes. So on her way from work, she picked up some thicker pads for me to use. Its been going on all day. All this kind of light/bright/regular blood color, with some darkness. When it dries, its brown, like dry blood. I've changed my pad every once in a while. When I go to the bathroom, and have to pee, after i wipe with toilet paper, theres 'blood' on it. Its sometimes a little, some times alot.

I want to know if this is my period, and if it should be this color. Should it always be alot? should it always be red? How long should this last? When should i start wearing pads again? School starts on the 8th, and i dont want to go the bathroom and see my underwear is completely ruined, because i cannot change it.

Please help! This is defiantly your period!!

Menstrual blood, for me at least, can range anything from brown to light red. Usually when it first starts, and when it is ending is when it turns brown. Menstrual flow also changes (the actual amount of blood) and that is completely normal! It can range from quite alot, to barely any.

A menstrual cycle usually lasts between three days and a week. So it is not just a one day thing, you need to continue wearing pads until the bleeding has stopped (they have different pads ranging in thickness so you can pick depending on the flow you are experiencing).

The females cycle is roughly a 28 day cycle (though there are plenty of exceptions so this is more of a generalization) so the day you start, it should roughly be 28 days before you start again. I just say about three weeks because it can change up, be a bit more or a bit less. You may skip a month as well, and this is all normal.

Keep in mind, girls periods can be completely unpredictable! Sometimes mine will seem like its done, as in I stop bleeding for a couple hours and go to bed. But when I wake up I find it has started up again. These variations are all a normal thing to experience.

You can usually feel your period before it comes, as in you will probably experience some cramps or some headaches a couple hours before it comes. Just mark on a calender the week it should come and bring pads with you to school and look for those symptoms and just check on a regular basis.

Like I said you can usually feel when it has come or is about to come, you should start to feel the cramps in your pelvic area.

Your mother should be able to tell you all of this, and any other questions you have!

Good luck! And I hope this helps! It different for different people, some people have a period for 10 days some 2 it all depends. It usually is red but it can be different shades. I can start of as anlittle ad can get much heavier. You should wear pads 2-3 days before the date of your period just in case. :)
It's fine, bring pads to school incase it happens and a extra pare of panties and ussaly it last from 5-7 day but if it's alittle bit longer that's fine and yes this is ur period and pads are perfectly fine till you fell confterble to ware tampons
its perfectly normal! ;) it can be brown, red, or pinkish.
